- Good email forward.
It was autumn, and the Red Indians asked their New Chief if the winter was going to be cold or mild. Since he was a Red Indian chief in a modern society, he couldn`t tell what the weather was going to be. Nevertheless, to be on the safe side, he replied to his Tribe that the winter was indeed going to be cold and that the members of the village should collect wood to be prepared.
But also being a practical leader, after several days he got an idea. He went to the phone booth, called the National Weather Service and asked "Is the coming winter going to be cold?" "It looks like this winter is Going to be quite cold indeed," the meteorologist at the weather service Responded.

So the Chief went back to his people and told them to collect even more Wood. A week later, he called the National Weather Service again.

"Is it going to be a very cold winter?" "Yes," the man at National Weather Service again replied, "It`s definitely going to be a very cold winter."

The Chief again went back to his people and ordered them to collect every scrap of wood they could find. Two weeks later, he called the National Weather Service again. "Are you absolutely sure that the winter is going to be very cold?" "Absolutely," The Man replied. "It`s going to be one of the coldest winters ever." "How can you be so sure?" the Chief asked. The weatherman replied,

"The Red Indians are collecting wood like Crazy." This is how stock markets work!!!

In times when Indian roads are ruled by super bikes or ultra fast and furious two wheelers, TVS motors still prides in manufacturing the TVS champ and TVS XL version. So called mopeds which are single cylinder and runs on 3.5bhp is a success story in many ways. By the way it is high selling model at least in south India, primarily because it still sells like hot cake in urban and rural sector at affordable pricing but most important reason being the degree to which these mopeds are customized, retro fitted and reinvented for application in million ways. Such is the impact and presence of these mopeds that they have brewed a small business eco system of its own.

The entire room was charged, it is not that your company gets deals north of USD 20 mill daily. The business development team had done a splendid job of getting a piece of technology solution to be delivered to the “Mega European Rail Transit Company” in spite of not being a consortium partner.

In the context of major bugs being reported in requirement stage globally across all industries ,quite interesting comments were made by Andy Hayward in his blog posts on “Different requirement techniques “. One such blog on “When to use user stories, use cases and IEEE 830 – Part 2: Use cases” explored several use case formats.

After looking at multiple apps and figuring out multiple limitations including cost….I just worked out a new solution that allows us to seamlessly access PC data in the mobile devices over home network.

Solution: Just start the ISS webserver which is there in built in the PC and add the folders we want to be available over the LAN as a virtual folder into the default website.

Following joke came up in a discussion with my friend about the differences in the kind of jobs we do in software industry. We were just trying to compare ‘engineering’ with ‘mechanic’ job. The joke is just a small extract from the discussion between a doctor and a mechanic.

Being home on a week’s vacation gave me the chance to watch TV programs including a long list of advertisements; ads for Mutual funds to matchboxes. The claims made in some of the ads seem to be totally ridiculous, especially the claims and promises made in soap, shampoo and educational institution advertisements are literally too much. They are just confusing and misleading even for a decently educated and experienced people like me.

A small thought on the complexity of a marriage reveals amazing thoughts. Think of it, within one family itself there are various kind of thought processes, differing philosophies and so on to claim enough differences. It’s great that our society is still keeping the concept of family intact till date with all such differences. But that’s also OK, since family members are blood relations and mostly they have lived together and grew up as one lot over a longer period of time.

Most cell phone service providers in India are offering the facility of choosing a caller tune on paying a premium on the rent/charges. It actually feels good to hear a nice song or a good music on calling somebody. But one thing that is annoying is the 15 to 20 seconds message being added by the service providers before the caller tune starts to play. Not sure if they are even allowed to do advertise their service as part of the service itself.

I used to have an engineer in my team who was on the phone most of the time during work hours, for a considerable period of time. Concerned fellow is either talking on the mobile phone or the desk phone continuously. At that point in time we were running extremely tight on the project schedule and there was enough work to make the team sit in the office almost late every day.
